Welcome to our FMS PTA website

I am happy to welcome you all to the 2008-2009 school year at Franklin Middle School. My name is Tracy Smith and I will be your PTA President for the next year. I currently have 2 children attending Franklin Middle School, a 7th grader and an 8th grader. My oldest child is a sophmore at Western School for Technology and Environmental Science (a BCPS magnet HS in Catonsville) and my youngest is in 2nd grade at Glyndon ES. I work part time as a preschool aide at Pleasant Hill Nursery School and have my own business as an independent consultant for Tastefully Simple. I am also an active member of the PTA at Glyndon and the PTSA at WSTES; as well as treasurer of my two sons Boy Scout troop. With 2 kids at FMS, I am sure you will see me around the school, so please, come up and say hi - I'd love to meet you!

Have you ever wondered where your dues and fund raising money go?

The PTA arranges and pays for the cultural assemblies enjoyed by the kids throughout the year; we give money to support all the after school clubs available to any child attending FMS; we support our wonderful FMS Staff throughout the year with various appreciation events (back-to-school luncheon and teacher appreciation week to name a couple); we offer a scholarship to local HS graduates that attended FMS; and much more!

Of course, none of this is possible without the support of our families, neighbors and friends. ANY help, whether it the gift of time or financial support, is truly appreciated and makes a REAL difference. So please, give what you can! Are you able to volunteer? FMS PTA has volunteer openings that fit every schedule. There are one time events as well as ongoing programs and even opportunities you can do from home. Let us know what your schedule will accommodate and where your interests lie and we will help you find the volunteer opening that fits you! PTA does not mean a full time job. You help as little or as much as your schedule allows. But whatever you choose, PLEASE, join the PTA. You have received a membership envelope and info sheet in your summer mailing. It is just $9.00 per person. We also accept direct donations, so consider rounding your membership up to $10 or $20! PTA is not for profit, so your donations are tax deductible! We are working to limit the fundraising we need to do, so we really need your support to continue to bring a quality school year for the children.

Our meetings will be held, generally, on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, at 7 p.m., in the school library and are open to everyone. Please join us. We'd love to meet you.

As always, your support of this PTA is welcomed and appreciated. We could not succeed without your help! On behalf of your PTA Board, we wish you and your family a wonderful school year of education and fun! If you are interested in helping in any way or have any questions, please contact me via email. I promise to reply in a timely manner.

Best regards,

Tracy Smith
